Hello friends,
The birds are filling the Spring air with “live” tunes as we emerge from a winter quieter than most. This is the time of year that the Music Advocacy Group (MAG) normally brings you “100 Musicians! 1 Great Cause!”, our main fund-raiser to benefit music education at the public school. Although pandemic restrictions have prevented us from hosting our “live” concert in the school gym to showcase student musicians and community music groups, we hope you enjoy this surprise concert video.
Over the past year, Orcas Island School District (OISD) music teachers, Pamela Wright and Darren Dix, have continued teaching music remotely. They fully utilized music learning software that was already in place to continue teaching the curriculum, and they met weekly with students in virtual classrooms. MAG helped with the purchase of two Apple desktop computers and editing software last May, allowing the teachers to record practice clips for students to play along with at home and to edit student video assignments.

For our concert video, Pamela and Darren created delightful virtual recitals that OISD student musicians recorded at home. The Directors of the Island Sinfonia, Orcas Island Community Band, Orcas Choral Society, and Orcas Youth Chorus also appear in the video along with Pamela and Darren with messages in support of school music. MAG would like to applaud Pamela & Darren for their dedication to teaching student musicians.

Join us in celebrating the power of school music! Please watch “2021 Surprise Concert for School Music” at our Web site, OIMAG.ORG, and on our YouTube Channel, and consider contributing financially to MAG. MAG helps pay for sheet music, instruments, technical equipment, transportation & competition fees, and most recently, Covid19 protective gear for student musicians. Your donations have helped us provide up to half of our public school’s budget for K-12 music education each year!

We truly miss seeing you in person, and we expect that next year on SUNDAY, MARCH 6, 2022, we will be together to celebrate school music at a more traditional in-person concert. The tireless support of the school district, parents, and supporters like you matter. We appreciate you and hope you enjoy the 2021 concert video.
Sincerely,
Music Advocacy Group
