May 2026 Music Student of the Month – Cora Shaner

“I really liked how pretty it looked and I enjoy the sound that it makes,” says 5th grade band member Cora Shaner, describing the immediate connection she felt to the clarinet during last year’s school instrument zoo. Cora’s enthusiasm for her instrument and her ensemble has earned her the title of Music Student of the Month.

For Cora, the magic of band lies in the collective effort of the group.

“I really like how all the different instruments come together to make one song,” she explains. Currently, her favorite piece to perform is the spirited Dragon Armada. Band director Mr. Dix has taken notice of Cora’s collaborative spirit, saying, “Cora has really excelled on clarinet and has taken the initiative to help out classmates to make sure they are understanding. Keep up the great work, Cora!” Mr. Dix plays a big role in Cora’s success. She notes that he keeps the atmosphere light with “really funny signs posted that make me smile and laugh.” Offering a bit of wisdom for those just starting their musical journey, Cora advises: “Keep practicing because you will get better, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from your parents or teachers.”

Congratulations to Cora Shaner, May 2026 Music Student of the Month!
